Data centers and data center design have become hugely important components of the modern world that we live in today. After all, we are so connected to our technology, our electronics, that data centers with superior data center design have become the next natural step. In fact, data centers are the ideal place for the storage of information, as they provide a safe place to put information where it will not easily be lost or misplaced, a problem with filing that plagued businesses, companies, and even individual people for years and years in the past. Thankfully, however, this is no longer the case, as many companies and businesses have now moved to storing their data on the cloud. For many – up to eighty two percent of those who have made the switch – this has allowed for a considerable amount of saved money, as documents are no longer being lost and misplaced – and needing to be refiled – in the way that they were before. And as more than thirty five percent of all companies working on a large scale with much information to store are projected to exceed their IT capacity within the next two years (even within the next eighteen months, to be more specific), it is no surprise that data centers with excellent data center design are quickly becoming the norm all throughout the country of the United States.
When it comes to data centers in the United States, data center design is key, as it is this data center design that will help to keep the data center as a whole running as smoothly as is possible. Part of this data center design involves infrastructure support – such as high density cooling – to keep the data protected and the system of the data center in good working order. This is because much of the energy that a data center uses is spent keeping data servers at the right temperature. Allowing such servers to overheat often has catastrophic results, resulting in the loss of data and the loss of the servers themselves on top of that. Data center management is hugely critical, and is deeply tied to data center design, which makes the data center viable in the first place.
It must also be noted that there has been a push in recent years to make data centers all across the country more energy efficient, especially as the number of data centers in the United States is expected to grow by more than twenty percent per year in the years to come. Data center design will play a huge part in this, particularly in the data centers that have yet to be constructed throughout this country. And moving to more energy efficient ways of operating will perhaps not be as big of an adjustment as many people think, with two billion dollars in savings possible just from becoming twenty percent more efficient, something that the vast majority of all data centers with adequate data center design should be able to do with relative ease, even allowing for a period of adjustment, as must be done with all new and unfamiliar things. And this energy efficiency is beneficial for the environment as well as for cost saving measures, as the typical data center design utilizes a huge amount of energy every single day that the data center is in operation. In fact, the typical data center in the United States produces enough energy to power nine small sized shopping malls (that are approximately the size of your typical Walmart store). This is not a small amount of power, and harnessing it correctly could be a huge money saving initiative for even the smallest of data centers in the United States.
Data centers with a good data center design are becoming necessary in the United States – and in other countries beyond it as well. As we grow more and more in our capacity for storage, particularly virtual storage, we will grow more and more in the energy that we use as well – but energy saving steps are possible.
